i have been taking tylenol 3 for a toothache but it only works for about an hour so i was going to switch to percacet(spelling?) when will it be safe to start taking them? i just took my last tylenol 3 about 20 min. ago, and it says to take every 4 hours. after the 4 hours is up, can i take the percacet then or should i wait longer?

You have an hour 'window'. You can take the percocet in 3 hours after taking the tylenol 3. Make sure you aren't allergic to percocet. If you are in doubt of anything I am telling you, feel free to either call your doc or pharmacist and ask them. Make sure you rinse your mouth with salt water and do it often. Motrin may help too with any inflammation you have. You can take both percocet and motrin together if you want. A mouth rinse will help too. If you have a good rappor with your dentist, you may want to ask for some 'dental wax' to stick in the tooth that is giving you trouble. It will block any food from getting in there and staying in there. Use anbesol or orajel. That also helps. Hope you feel better.

Tylenol 3s have 30mgs of codeine and 300mgs of acetaminophen. Tylenol 4s have 60mgs of codeine and 300mgs of Tylenol. So basically the only difference is the extra Tylenol you'll consume. Of course you should never take anything like that without the doctor's permission... 8*)

Be very careful with the tylenol, it is the tylenol that is worse then the narcotic. T3 are not very strong and you only took 5mg of oxycodone, the usual script are every 4-6 hours as needed, so you can take one now, I would take the other half of the oxycodone, and tell your doctor t3 do not work and that you want something stronger.

well i'm 13 and i punched my brother in the head the other day really hard and i hurt my hand pretty bad so i cut a t-3 in half and took a half. the pain didn't go away either. what will happen? btw i didn't have advil and won't it kill me if i take a full t3? i'm to young right?

Hey Jack why are you eating Rx meds that aren't yours?? That is not a very smart thing to do buddy. I've seen plenty of good young people start by just taking a pain pill or 2. Then a few years later they are in line at a methadone clinic or they are in jail. Do yourself a favor and don't mess with Rx medications. You would have been better off taking just 2 tylenols or advil. And by the way,,, if the medication was someone else's and you took it, and had a bad reaction to it, your parents could be in a lot of trouble. I'm sure you wouldn't want that. Some medications are made to be broke in half and used that way, but some when broken in half have a far difdferent effect on you and it can be a serious mistake. Or just taking the tylenol with codeine can cause an allergic reaction that can kill you. It doesn't happen often but it could happen to you. That's why it's not a good idea to ever take any medication without your parents being involved. Good luck, have fun, and enjoy being a teenager without having drugs ruin it for you. First of all, they are not both codeine. They are opiate-based narcotic analgesics, and serve the same purpose, but are definitely NOT the same chemical. According to Purdue Pharma, the manufacturer of oxycodone, 180 mg of codeine taken as 6 doses daily of tylenol #3 can be replaced with 2 x 10 mg doses of oxycontin controlled release. So theoretically, 45 mg of codeine phosphate = 5 mg of oxycodone (at least in the controlled release format which is intended to last 8-12 hours). From my experience however, the codeine just isn't that strong, and also has a relatively short duration of 2-3 hours. The other issue is the amount of acetaminophen you're consuming. Each tylenol #3 has 325 mg of it, while the oxycodone you were prescribed either has none, or more typically, 325 per 5 mg pill. You want to reduce your tylenol (acetaminophen) consumption as much as possible, as it is toxic to the liver and kidneys. Speak to your MD and if there is a need for continued medication, he/she will prescribe what's necessary for your pain, but ask for a medication that minimizes your intake of tylenol. .
