The most respected TV golf announcers seem to be unanimus in suggesting that mid- handicap golfers would benefit significantly from the use of the hybrid irons that most major manufacturers are offering. (Adams, Callaway, Cobra, Nike, Ping ) HE Canada

    Q. What golf irons should a mid-handicap golfer buy?

I would highly recommend the Adams hybrid iron series, although I know that Nike and other manufactures such as Taylormade, Cobra, Cleveland and Titleist also offer great hybrid iron sets. Graphite shafts should be considered as an option.

    Q. Good irons????????????
what are good irons for a 13 yr. old 15 handicap.

"Year because they released the new burner irons..."

I personally like the Taylormade R7's. I have a set and absolutely love them, not to mention the price dropped considerably this year because they released the new Burner Irons . The R7's provide more sole weighting to help increase launch angle and the are very forgiving on off-centered hits. They also look very good! The R7's are clubs that can be used from 90's all the way up Pro's. Kenny Perry won three weeks ago and half of his irons are R7's. The only other set I would consider at the same playability level and number of good reviews would be the Calloway X-22's but I just dont seem to hit them as well and went with the R7's. If I were you, I would go to your local Sports Authority or Dick's Sporting Goods and try some sets out in the simulator. It wont be as good as if you could demo a set on the range but it is better than buying a set blind. Good luck!

    Q. What set of irons should i buy?
i'm 24 years old. i am a 13 handicap. price shouldn't be over 500, i don't care for the biggest and newest and bestest set, just something that would be perfect for me. i swing between 95-105. my irons usually have a good ball flight. i care more about mishits than i do about shaping my shot. i want my clubs to last me for awhile, something that will be perfect for me now and perfect for me when i'm a single digit handicap(lord knows when that's gonna happen). thanks guys!

    "Good luck...."

Try going to a club demo day/nite at a driving range. There you will be able to test an array of clubs of different makes with different shaft options. Once you have done that you will be able to make an informed decision based on personal preference. It doesn't get any better than that. Good luck.

    Q. What kind of irons should i get for my dad for christmas?
hes like a 13 handicap, he doesnt swing very hard but he normally makes pretty good contact. any suggestions?

"There might be a chance he loves his current irons and doesn't want new irons..."

I think everyone is pretty much in agreement on this one. One of the biggest problems a lot of golfers have is playing equipment that is not right for them. There might be a chance he loves his current irons and doesn't want new irons. Maybe you should bring it up and ask him about the ones he has and if he likes them. Buy him a club fitting, he will hit balls and a computer will analyze all the numbers and tell him which irons are the best for him. Its usually about 50 bucks but worth it. After he does all of that then you could buy his irons for him. It seems like a lot of work and it wont be much of a surprise but if he finds new clubs that he loves and hits great he might be a 10 handicap before he knows it.

    Q. Do you think that i have a good golf set?
do you think that i have a good golf set? i'm 14 years old with about a 12-13 handicap. i have been playing for only around six months. i am going to try out for the freshman golf team at my school so i want to know if my clubs are up to par. driver: taylormade r7 460 w/grafalloy prolaunch blue 45 gram shaft, reg. flex. 3 and 5 woods: taylormade r7 titanium w/grafalloy prolaunch blue 55 gram shafts, reg. flex. 4 and 5 hybrids: callaway x-hybrid w/grafalloy prolaunch hybrid shafts, reg. flex. 6-7 irons: callaway big bertha fusion wide sole irons w/grafalloy prolaunch iron shafts, reg. flex. 8-pw: callaway big bertha fusion irons w/grafalloy prolaunch iron shafts, reg. flex. 51, 56, 61 degree wedges: taylormade rac black tp w/true temper gs 75 wedge shaft (lightest steel shaft on market, 75 grams.) putter: odyssey tri-ball srt putter, 34 inches. ball: callaway hx tour 56 if you think that there is something wrong with it, please say so. thank you. hey ryan n, i actually am a 12 handicap. i practice almost everyday for 5-6 hours and get some lessons along the way. you obviously don't know what hard work brings. hey brent f, i earned those clubs, my parents didn't spend a cent. . i caddied, and cleaned clubs at my course for years. i also work at a local golfsmith. and yes, those clubs are custom fitted to my swing and body measurements. hey fat_albert_999, if you do some research, or know anything about golf, you will know that a 3-iron is 19 degrees loft and so is a 5-wood.

"(both caddieing and practicing to bring your handicap down..."

ksinghvir - Young man I would say this. Are your clubs fitted to your body type and swing? Because if they are not your parents have wasted a lot of money buying you those clubs. Those are expensive clubs that you have. Expensive isn't always the best, go get them fitted, if you haven't had them fitted already. Good luck trying out for your Freshman golf team. A response to your comment: Good for you. The best lesson you learned is the value of hard work (both caddieing and practicing to bring your handicap down ). When you get older, stronger and better, believe me you will, Switch to steel in your irons, and get irons with less offset as you will want to be able to keep your ball flight down. They will also provide you with more workability. Skidude - 5'5"? 315? The yardage at your golf course is off. Or maybe since your name is Skidude you play at 10,000 ft. altitude. Bring your game down to FL.(at sea level) doubt it's 315 here.

    Q. Am i ready for tour irons?
i am 14 years old, about a 10-13 handicap. i am currently trying out for my varsity high school team. i am wondering if i am good enough for tour irons. i have demoed regular irons at golf galaxy, but not tour irons.

"But if you are a good golfer who hits the ball well..."

If you think you are then you are. Most people will tell you to stay away from them. But if you are a good golfer who hits the ball well the will make you better. One you get better feed back. Two they make you slow you swing down a little to make sure you hit it solid, that will help anyone. Forged clubs will spin the ball more as well. The forged clubs that they make now are pretty forgiving as well. If you want to play them go for it you wont be sorry. You might want to make the team first and then ease into them.

    Q. Consistency with irons fat or thin shots?
i'm 13 years old with a 3.8 handicap for 18 holes and i'm usually a fairly good ball striker (i play adamsgolf pro forged irons) but there are some days where i just cant make consistent iron contact. any tips or drills on how to make more consistent ball before ground contact?

quit bopping your head up or down.. try to keep your angles all through your swing to be more consistent..

    Q. What kind of golf ball should i use?
i am about a 13 handicap. i don't need any distance, i think. i'm about 250-280 off the tee. i tend to slice with my woods and hook my irons. i'm only 13 and can't spend too much money, but if it's a good ball i can pay for it. any suggestions would be helpful!

Maybe you can try Titleist's DT line, or Callaway Diablo's, Nike Juice, something from Bridgestone's e+ line. You could also use recycled golf balls. They sell recycled Pro V1/V1x's for $25, TaylorMade's TP Red/Black, Nike One Platinum/Black, etc. for $20. Links Choice is the brand I find at my local Meijer's and Dunham's, and maybe I've been lucky, but I haven't had anything to complain about. They're really strict with quality control, so it's rare you'd find a really bad ball. It's also a nice way to play a "tour" ball without breaking the bank.

    Q. Best way to play a 4 person golf scramble?
two guys are 10+ handicap and two are 12 and 13+. is there any good points or just general ways to help improve? i know one guy is good with the irons and i am good of the tee box and with my three wood. i don't know about the other two.

    "Good luck..."

Different ways to play a scramble, but most important is have fun! I'll share how we like to play scrambles: Tee Box when length matters: Let the golfer who is most consistent off the tee go first. Even if it's 230 yards down the middle, it's at least playable. The guys that follow him should be able to let it fly without worry of having to play their balls should they end up in someone's backyard. Tee Box when placement matters(i.e. doglegs): Same as above about the consistent golfer placing a shot in the corner. If it's a dogleg right, let the guy who has a big, sweeping slice go all out in trying to shorten the hole. Iron Shots: I haven't yet found a successful pattern, but make sure the last golfer to hit can handle some pressure just in case the first 3 don't hit the green! ;) Putting: The worst putter needs to go first, but at least let the others know how he's playing the putt. Tis best to let the other teammates know how the putt breaks according to the first golfer's line. Good luck, but have fun regardless!

    Q. Nike forged pro combo or nike forged pro combo os?
i am a 13 handicap, but i hit good straight shots with my irons

"Three years try less forging irons..."

combos much easier to hit . more forgining . three years try less forging irons , if you are buying through golf store have them fitted for lie angle .. due to the loft of the pitching wedge , whine , beg ,grovel , for a deal on 50 degree wedge . the combo along with other wedges glorified 8 irons . i am , real old . tossed driver . play with 5 wedges 46, 50 .55 59 64 it works

    Q. Need good opinions on wedge set up!?
i have been playing golf for a 18 months and a 13 handicap...have broken 80 once (79)....i play wilson ci7 irons with the pw 44* and gw at 50*....my next wedges are a cg14 56 14* and titleist sm 60.04....one of my biggest set backs is hitting my sw fat on pitches and chips....could not figure it out until i came across the term "bounce", i have too much bounce for the conditions in south texas....ever since i started using my gw @ 6* of bounce i have fared much better....i want to add 2 wedges to replace the my 56 and 60.....i am looking at a 54* @ 8* of bounce and a 58* @ 8* of bounce.....the question is, will i be ok with this set up having same bounce angles or should they be different bounce angles? also, does the bounce angle increase when i open up the face of either wedge when in a sand bunker? i will be purchasing one wedge at a time, which should i purchase first? your respones are very much appreciated.

8-10* on the 54* and 4-8* on the 58* would be OK for the harder turf. Going with 54 and 58* would also even out your lofts (4* each from the PW to the LW), which will give you more consistent distance spacing- another bonus.
