Q. How safe is tylenol mixed withother medssuch as hydrocodone? 10/325. how mny a day are safe/?

You should never mix drugs. Don`t take Tylenol with alcohol or Hydrocodone. Your liver has to detoxify all this stuff and it needs a lot of fruits and about 1000 mgs of Vitamin C if you are on any drugs. You will also notice that you will feel a lot better taking the Vitamin C. Vitamin C does not absorb into your system without taking fruit along with it. Oranges, pineapple, strawberries are all very good for this.

Q. Tylenol pm and vicadin daily.safe???
ive been taking tylenol pm nighty for about 8 years.i also have been taking vicadin daily for about three years.i take 1000mg of tylenol pm and 1500-2500 of vicadin.i also have 2-3 beers every other day or so.ive been having some weird stomachaches the last two weeks.is this from to many pills?there is acetaminophen in both pills is this causing liver problems?i fell as i am not taking too many pills, just been over such a long period.any suggestions would be great.

The maximum range for adults of tylenol is @ 4200mg daily. U are in the safe zone. The beer I am not sure to say. I think it is safe to say that daily beer consumption will affect the tylenol, probably making it harder for your liver to filter it out as needed which can make it build up in your system and cause long term liver damage. I don't want to make any suggestions as I am sure that most will be to cut out the beer, which would be great health wise. I would dare to say however, the beer with the medicine is probably what is causing the stomach aches. Try cutting down on it or at least track what you eat/drink/take that might have a common factor before your stomach aches begin. Good luck P.S. Be honest with your doctor about alcohol consumption, he may give advice you don't want to hear but he'll also be aware of what is going on with your meds as alcohol can decrease or increase certain medications to a negative effect!

Q. How safe is codeine?
i have been taking tylenol # 3 with codeine for about a year now, i have cronic back pain, caused by degenerative disc disease. i have read that tylenol can cause problems with liver function, but what about codeine? how safe is codeine, by it's self ? i've been taking tylenol # 3 with codeine, 3 times a day, it helps take the edge off the pain, but does not eliminate it. i was thinking about asking the doctor to change me over to a pain medication that doesn't contain tylenol," to be honest, what i have read about tylenol scares me ". i think something that uses aspirin combined with codeine would be safer. i have also heard about a patch that delivers pain medication at a steady rate into the bloodstream, has anyone with cronic back pain used this patch? i am looking for thoughful answers here," no stoner jokes please".

www.wikipedia.org/codeine this should provide a lot of helpful information about the general drug

Q. What is a "liver friendly" antibiotic for a sinus infection?
i was a heavy drinker for over 20 years and have only been sober for one month so far. i suspect my liver is pretty beat up. i am very wary about things like tylenol, and antibiotics. i have a nasty, lingering sinus infection....my doctor prescribed zitromax, but i'm afraid of taking it (...part of the problem also is telling my doctor about the drinking part...i have personal reasons for that...) is there an antibiotic safe for the liver, or something else to knock out this sinus infection?

If you have been a heavy drinker for over 20 years, it is important to tell that to your doctor. If you are not comfortable telling that to the doctor that you have now, then switch doctors! Your doctor should be checking your liver enzymes or LFTS (liver function tests - blood test) to see how well your liver is working and what damage has been done by the alcohol if any. The liver metabolizes drugs, so if your liver has any damage then medications could further damage it, or not get metabolized at all. Your liver is a very important part of your body removing toxins, storing sugar, metabolizing drugs and alcoho, making proteins and adding in clotting factors for your blood. Check your liver, go to a doctor you trust, and give them all the information about your past history. Doctors are there to heal and help, not to judge, remember that ! There are some drugs that are not as hard on your liver, that you could take for your sinus infection, but without your doctor knowing that information they can not give you the proper medication that may not be so hard on your liver.

Q. How much is safe if i combine vicodin/tylenol with advil?
i'm in some serious pain, and because i have a lower dose vicodin/tylenol combination (5/500) i went ahead and took two. unfortunately it's not helping much, and i can't sleep through the pain. i know to take anymore would be dangerous for the liver, but would it be ok for me to take 3 or 4 advil as well? i've taken this and even higher doses of advil before (i don't make it a habit, and i know a lot of advil isn't exactly healthy, but it has never hurt me before). i just want to make sure that there isn't going to be a problem mixing it with the vicodin 5/500's i've already taken (tomorrow i think i'll stick with just the advil.. vicodin sucks). i forgot to mention that i was prescribed the vicodin after an abscess lancing. i am more concerned about the blood thinning more than anything. i know advil thins blood, but i don't really know if vidodin/tylenol has that effect as well (in which case i guess i should suffer a few more hours before i do the advil).

Go McCain - If you are in the pharmacy then you would know that Vicodin contains acetaminophen (as you stated) and Advil is ibuprofen. You would also know that it is safe to combine these two medications. There is no problem with you mixing your Vicodin with Advil. Be careful about the amount of acetaminophen that you take in. You do not want to take more than 4000mg in a 24 hour period. You also want to avoid taking more than 1000mg at a time. The biggest problem with mixing acetaminophen and ibuprofen is that over a long period of time it can cause some kidney damage. I don't think you have to worry about this. It is also not uncommon for people to react more to Advil or Tylenol or Aleve or any of the other OTC medications more than they do to Vicodin. Some people simply do not get the pain relief that others get from prescription opiate analgesics.

Q. Can you separate the hydrocodone from the apap(tylenol)?
i have a prescription for hydrocodone 7.5/750 apap. i don't like taking pain killers at all, but the severity of the injury to my neck leaves me with little options. i only take them before bed to help with relaxation while i'm sleeping. i'm most concerned with the continued use of the tylenol because i'm already on a prescribed regiment of ibuprofen. prolonged use of both can and will likely cause damage to my liver, heart, and kidneys. also, i like to enjoy a beer here and there, and am terribly afraid of having a beer while on a regiment of either tylenol or ibuprofen. so i haven't had a good ole beer in a long time. it's extremely difficult to get a schedule 2 narcotic over my schedule 3, and i'm not sure i even want it because i'm unaware of the dosages. the 7.5mg of hydrocodone once a night seems to do me well enough to sleep more comfortably than without it, so staying at that level is fine just don't want the tylenol. is there any way i can remove the tylenol from the hydrocodone? i read a post where someone noted hydrocodone is more soluble in water than tylenol and to crush the pills, put them in 3x the pill power of warm water, refrigerate, and strain through a filter. the contents left in the filter would be mostly tylenol while the fluid strained would be most water and hydrocodone. seeing as how i would never experiment with this procedure with anything more than one pill, i assume i can't hurt myself because at the very least it won't strain anything and i'll be taking one pill as usual. anyone know if this is accurate? or another safe, simple way to extract the tylenol. please don't assume i'm a dope head looking for a safe high, because i very much hate pain medication. i have two 3mm herniated discs in my low back that i've had since i was 17 (4 years now) that i never take pain meds for, i fight the pain because it's safer and keeps me feeling healthy not being medicated. i just recently came down with 3 1mm bulged discs in my neck which were a direct result of poor posture brought on by thoracic outlet syndrome. this pain is ridiculous in comparison to my low back, and greatly affects my left hand. i'm afraid of needles because my mother died of aids, so don't accuse me of wanting to shoot it up (this was an accusation on the other post). i'm just a 21 yr old father who can't enjoy time with his child because of the pain and injuries he's suffered. i don't want to add liver failure to my list of problems while trying to seek comfort from the pain. any help is appreciated, even if the help is from a chemist who says "don't do this, it's not safe". if you aren't a chemist, or in the medical field with knowledge that extracting the two aren't safe don't state what you don't know. i'm extracting a comment in my information that is pertinent to those telling me to ask my doctor for stronger meds. it's extremely difficult to get a schedule 2 narcotic over my schedule 3

It's not unsafe, it just won't work. It would be like trying to get the caffeine out of coffee grounds. It just doesn't work like that. Yes, prolonged use of ibuprofen or acetaminophen can cause damage to the liver and kidneys, but not at reasonable doses. Unless you already have problems with those organs, it's unlikely to cause damage to your heart and liver. With your medication you can safely take five hydrocodone/apap a day. And you can take 2400mg of ibuprofen a day. As for the alcohol, the general thought is that an otherwise healthy man can have 1-2 drinks (that's one can of beer, one glass of wine, or one shot) and 2800mg of acetaminophen daily. That's three of your painkillers. If you are still really concerned, you can ask you doctor to try Darvon or Ultram, they are both schedule 4 so they have the same regulations as a 3. They just don't work very well. But medically, there's no reason to stop doing what you are doing and start having a beer every once in a while. Did you know that APAP stands for N-Acetyl-Para-Amino-Phenol, and name acetaminophen is the combination of the first few letters of each chemical compound?

Q. Acetaminophen questions, please help will give 10 points?
hello i have some questions about acetaminophen i have been taking about 7-9 tylenol in a 24 hr peroid for the past 5 days, how many days is it safe to take this ammount in a row, also how would i know if i overdosed on acetaminophen, what are the symtoms?, also how much can be took at one time, i dont want to have any liver problems but i am in pain very badly and my doctor does not want to precribe me any more lortab because of the fear of addiction(i understand that, addiction would be horrible). please help with this question, also where at is the liver located, is it below the brests or where at? thank you.

Depending on the strength of the tylenol you have been taking you are taking way to much! You should take 4 grams max a day which is usually about 4 tylenol (depending on the strength). You will get liver damage by using this much. If you drink any amount of alcohol you should limit yourself to 2-3 grams per day. You need to seek a new doctor. Pain is real. You need to find out what is wrong with you. What is causing this pain and your treatment. This doesn't sound like a very credible doctor and if I were you I would seek a second opinion. Your liver is located on your left side below your breast a little ways and it stretches all the way across your body. It isn't going to ache or anything if it fails, it will show up in your BUN and creatinine blood levels.

Q. Hurt shoulder can't sleep! please help!?
i hurt my shoulder pretty bad lifting boxes several days ago, and finally saw a dr for it yesterday. she advised me to take it easy for a week, ice it, see if it feels better and then maybe do some physical therapy or schedule and appt with an orthopedic surgeon. she gave me a prescription for 500 mg vicodin to help ease the pain while i rest up. since our appt i've been taken it as prescribed, first 1 pill every 4 hrs, but when that didn't help i started taking two bc the prescription said 1-2 pills every 4-6 hrs. it's still a little sore during the day but the real problem comes at night. i didn't sleep more than 2 hrs last night and still can't sleep tonight despite being exhausted. the pressure of laying down just really hurts my shoulder and it seems impossible to get comfortable. is it safe to take 3 pills at a time? i'm concerned about the tylenol in it bc i hear that messes up your liver, and the lady at the pharmacy said not to take more than 8 pills in a day. should i talk to my dr tomorrow about switching meds---maybe something stronger or with less tylenol? should i go see an orthopedic surgeon asap because my shoulder doesn't seem to be better? i'm freaking out. what should i do? i guess i'll just keep trying to sleep. ugh.

Night pain is common with shoulder injuries. I would suggest sleeping in a recliner for a few nights if your back can tolerate it. ...you are correct, you need to be careful about the amount of tylenol in the vicodin. I would not take three pills at one time. Without knowing more about your symptoms, its hard to advise you further as to whether you need to see a surgeon or not...but if you are not ANY better and your pain control is not adequate, I would suggest you talk to your physician...maybe you need to see a surgeon, or maybe you need further tests, you maybe you need to get into PT sooner...
