    Q. Hello, i have a question about lipitor?

Lipitor is a drug that prohibits cholesterol from forming in your blood. My opinion is that you are better off correcting your diet and getting exercise than going on such a strong drug.

    Q. How long does lipitor stay in your system?

Lipitor stays in your system for about a week, however it takes two weeks to start to feel better if you have been affected with muscle aches and memory loss.

    Q. Quick relief from pain caused by lipitor? help!!!!!?
persistent pain from taking lipitor ...taken nexium, also antacid to reduce the intolerable heartburn, stomach and chest pain...still having pain although stopped taking lipitor today. last dose was taken 16 hours ago. anybody there to advise me on tips to temporary relief from these adverse effects of lipitor. thanks!!

Is it abdominal pain? Because taking Lipitor does give you pain as one of the side effects so there is nothing to worry about if it's not really bad as it will go away by itself. Also as far as i know you shouldn't be really taking antacids because its not recommended to take any indigestion remedy like antacids at the same time of day when you are already on Nexium (Proton Pump Inhibitor). Antacid might reduce the effect of Nexium. Hopefully within few hours you pain will go.....

    Q. Lipitor..first time and only given one month prescription..will that do anything??.?
iam 27 years old and my recently blood work showed that my cholesterol was high for the first time in my life. i had fasted for about 9-10 hours before given blood. results were total was 200. hdl was 45 and my ldl was 155. doctor was very quick to prescribe me 10mg of lipitor and only gave me a one month prescription. do you feel that she jumped the gun in prescribing me medication rather than trying to lower it on my own. and its only a 1 month prescription and they want to see me back, i was under the impression that you need to be on it for about 3 months in order to see results.. any opions would be greatly appreciated.

Obviously, you should try to make lifestyle changes to lower your cholesterol. It's definitely not as bad as some peoples' cholesterol levels. This doesn't always work, though, as scientists have discovered that genetics plays a large role in cholesterol levels. Some people who are in otherwise excellent physical health, still suffer from exorbitant cholesterol levels. Lipitor (atorvastatin) will show results fairly quickly, but three months would be optimal, as your doctor can see more of a long term change. I could say a lot of negative things regarding why doctors are so eager to hand out prescriptions for everything under the sun (I am a pharmacist in the US), but I won't second-guess your doctor. Here on YA!, I can't see you and run tests, and only your doctor knows what's going on with you, specifically. Communication with your health care professionals is key to your good health. Don't be afraid to speak up and be a firm, demanding advocate for your own health. Many doctors would probably be happy if more people would. When patients are complacent, it spreads easily. You seem to be an exception, so good for you in taking an active role in managing your health! Tell your doctors of your concerns, and see if he or she will work out something whereby you can attempt to lower your cholesterol levels without possibly hepatotoxic (liver damaging) medication. Until then, theoretically, you won't be any worse off by not taking the Lipitor, but I have to recommend following your doctor's advice. Stay away from grapefruit, too! Good luck.

You won't see any changes for 3-4 months.

    Q. Doe's anyone know how low your ldl cholesterol can go down before it's to low?
my ldl cholesterol was 143, 7 weeks ago,its 33 now and my hdl was 34 and its 29 now.my total was 197 now its 70.i had a blockage of 99% in july.had to have a stent.most people havn't heard of cholesterol dropping that low so quick.of corse i was on lipitor 40mg for 7 weeks.i'm off of it now.no one can tell me how low to low is,some say 40 is as low as you need to go some say it hasn't been proven how low you can go to be safe.

I sat in a lecture with a lipid guru who had studied exactly the question you asked. He maintained that he saw continued improvement in the reduction of plaque formation down to a LDL of 25. After having a blockage and requiring a stent I can't imagine why you would be off of your anti-cholesterol medication!!! I have never heard of someone dying from low cholesterol but I sure have from heart disease! You may not need 40mg of Lipitor but you could trial 10mg and have your numbers rechecked in 12 weeks. There have also been some studies that have demonstrated REVERSAL of plaque formations with low enough cholesterol numbers. Regardless, it isn't always the numbers, but rather the process of getting the plaques to be stable, rather than unstable and in danger of rupture - resulting in a 99% sub-occluded artery - and heart muscle damage. Good luck.

    Q. Stopping all my medications....suggestions?
quick break down aug 1 2009 had a heart attack, stent placed in put onto a mixture of rx's been taking them for 51 days....i want to stop all meds.... meds that i want to stop taking plavix, lipitor, lopressor, prednisone, plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine) what and how do you suggest that i do this?

DO NOT STOP ANY MEDICINES See you Doctor or another Doctor for 2nd opinion FIRST. For information about medicines and other health concerns you can also go to Web MD online. I have found it to be a useful resource as well. I understand about taking meds but you did not go through the surgery to then put yourself at risk. Get professional advise from those responsible for your care. As much fun and good help you may get here in this forum I would strongly suggest you trust your Medical team instead.
