The Cancun water and beaches are perfect. The oil is too far north to find it`s way there. You can go in confidence.

Yes, Cancun is safe so long as you stay at your hotel and get careless. Don`t get drunk and drown in the pool or fall off the balcany. These are the main accidents in Mexico. Do not go to the local bars or restaurants. Don`t mix with the locals. Don`t take a taxi ride except it is your own hotel taxi. Even then don`t take taxis into the countryside or around town. Stay in your own hotel. Some taxi drivers have been paid off by thugs that steal and kill.

Yes, it is safe on the Mayan Riviera. Make sure you stay on the resort grounds and do not go anywhere else. The resorts are safe, but don`t go to the local towns or bars.

We have been to Cancun many times. You are safer at the Mayan Riviera. These hotels are self enclosed and do not allow in any of the locals. Make sure you stay exclusively on the property and you will be fine. Cancun hotels have more exposure to the locals and people visit the local bars. Do NOT do this. This is where you will get into trouble. They are not safe.
