Are the new Netbooks faster than the good laptops? Is there any brand or service that will give you a fast Netbook? Which brand should I get? The Acer Aspire one, the samsung, or the ASUS Eee PC 1008 HA? Which one has the longest battery life?

In my opinion the Netbooks I have seen are not even close in speed to most current laptops but they are great for accessing E-mails and the internet when travelling/vacationing. They are also nice for showing photos. At present the most common processor is the Intel Atom N270 with a processor speed of 1.66 GHz., which is slow as compared to most laptops. Samsung, Lenovo, Dell, Asus, Sony, HP, Toshiba and Acer all have good Netbooks.

Q. What laptops/netbooks are inexpensive and fast?
i need and opinion and i want to find the best inexpensive laptop to buy. my budget is as high as 7 hundred dollers. i would like it to be fast but portable, maybe in white or pink, if possible. thanks! ♥ i would also like to be able to play the sims 2 or sims 3 on it if possible. i doesnt need to b that small, just less expensive is there supposed to hv more than 1 gb of ram? thts wut ive been told...

If you want a fast reliable laptop. Get ACER Aspire series. You are sure to get a good gaming computer as well and YES, Sims 2 or 3 works on it. They won the Best Buy award again so their must be a reason. We use it to program, along with other brands like Compaq, Toshiba (krap) etc...Acer is the fastest and extremely hassle-free LOL. Your choice

what is the difference between and laptop and a net book? i want a low-cost laptop/net book on which i can play games,watch movies, use microsoft office stuff and surf the net.and i want it to be fast also i was thinking along the lines of a sony vaio, which is the best sony vaio for the stuff i need? i forgot to metion i don't really mind about the sze but i want at least 4 hours battery life

netbooks are a form of laptops. But netbooks are usually less powerful and comes without a disc drive.

i need a laptop! under 300$ preferably. i was looking at dell inspiron mini netbooks. my friend says they aren't good, and they only last 3 months, and they're bad cause they dont have a cd player and they are low on battery. is this true? if so, do you know any cheap, good looking, fast laptops?

I was also looking for netbook earlier this month. I got the 10" hp netbook (red/pink/blue/white/balck) for $255 at Tigre Direct. There was a cheaper one similar also hp for $199 also at Tigre Direct, however it only came in black. It's really light and the battery last for more then a week, which is great!

Net Book: slow processor, limited ram memory, basic or starter operating system (not full featured), small screen and key board, No CD/DVD drive, no gaming, basic video/graphics and more. Net Book good for e-mail, surfing the net, basic work, no gaming, light and portable. Lap Top and Note Book: full featured operating system, fast processor, good to great video/graphics card, more ram memory, larger hard drives available, internal CD/DVD drive, portable and more. Desk top: cheaper to have repaired, much larger hard drive and ram memory, easier to upgrade, better to best video/graphics, larger screens/monitors available, fast processor, full size keyboard, better audio/sound and more.

Q. Squaretrade laptop reliability true or not?
squaretrade put this up (http://www.squaretrade.com/htm/pdf/squaretrade_laptop_reliability_1109.pdf) to discuss about laptop reliabilities. they also included the reliability of netbooks, which concerns me. since on average netbooks are considered to break down faster than laptops, are they also included in the graph on the reliability of brands? because if they are, then hp got screwed since they make most of the netbooks on the market. so do these statistics also count towards just laptops or both laptops and netbooks. because inclusion of both netbooks and laptops could put the companies that sell the most amount of netbooks to have the most amount of malfunctions.

Squaretrade is a relatively respected company. Read plenty of good reviews for them. I'm sure that all of their numbers are based purely on the laptops they warranty. 3 years sounds about right based on average usage. Of course it'll last longer if you use with care. I had an Asus that lasted only 2.5 years even. And they're supposedly the best according to them.

Q. Can i play youtube videos , run online java games or watch a movie online on a intel atom based netbook?
i mean compared to old regular pc's or laptop's , how fast are this netbooks?? are they like a regular 2003 , 2004 or 2005 laptop?? knowing that most netbooks come with 1gb ram and intel atom processor. thanks.

My wife uses a netbook with similar specs, and she can do all of those things.

Q. What is the best laptop for a college bound teenager?
i am currently a high school junior, but i want a computer that i can take with me to college. i dont need the best of the best, just something efficient and fast. netbooks are too small for me, but something under 17" is good. i also don't care much for the brand, as long as it won't have too many problems. is a duo core necessary? is an intel celeron processor really bad (for windows 7?) help!

Q. Can you help me compare these 2 laptops?
my mother keeps insisting that the laptop i have now is better than the new one she got my brother. i have a dell latitude d630 i just got as a hand-me-down from my dad, i think it's about two years old. my brother has, i am pretty sure but not positive, the newest installment in the acer aspire series of laptops (by the way it is not one of the netbooks, it is a normal sized laptop, i'm just not sure which one). it has windows 7 but my mom said she's willing to get windows 7 on the latitude and also to wipe the harddrive of mine. which laptop would be better? which has better performance? which is faster? which has more memory? try to put this in layman's terms. thanks a bunch

Your mum is lying. Sorry to say, but your brothers laptop is better. It comes pre-installed with win7 and yours doesn't.

hi, i recently got my first job and i was planning on purchasing a laptop with the money i save up. a few family members suggested buying a netbook instead. would this be a good idea? all i'll really be doing is going on the internet. do netbooks have fast internet connections and will there be things i can't do on a netbook that i could on a laptop? sorry about all the questions, i'm just curious. thanks for any help!

There are some things you cant do a netbooks as, at the end of the day its a mini-laptop so you cant fir much in:- No Optical Drive (no CD or DVD). No PCMCIA card. Most don’t have Bluetooth. Most don’t support 3G networking. But this is the whole point netbooks are small machines for surfing on the move. You can however do all Office style functions, and don't be put off by Linux as it's easy to use and has Open Office. You wont be able to run high end games, but basic games might be an option

Q. Why do laptops have fast processors, high memory, but poor video cards?
the trend seems to be for laptops that the processors are getting better with more cores and higher speed. the memory size is getting larger, reaching 4gbs. however, most laptops have crappy video accelerators that can't play games other than 2d ones. plus, many of these laptop do not allow the option of upgrading the video card. so what's the point in having enough memory and a good enough to processor to run recent games at high settings, but lack the graphics card to do it, as well as the capability of upgrading the graphics unit? might as well settle with netbooks, no?

"Card for my gaming rig for around $400..."

Three main reasons: 1. Price: I just bought the latest ATI card for my gaming rig for around $400 , some laptops aren't even that much. 2. Power/Heat: Good video cards require a lot of power. If you were to put my desktop GPU in a laptop, the battery life would drop down to about 20 minutes between charges. Also power hungry GPUs generate a lot of heat, requiring cooling that laptops just don't have the room for. It would basically melt in your lap.. or melt your lap. One of the two! 3. Size/Weight: The last video card I bought is over a foot long and weighs around 5 lb. People who buy laptops buy them for their portability. That being said, there are plenty of laptops out there with GREAT graphics cards and gaming performance, but expect to pay $3k+ for a decent one. Luckily for consumers and gadget lovers, technology is expanding at an exponential rate, and they're finding more and more ways to make all the things we love smaller. I think some time in the not so distant future we will see the day when size isn't a limitation on electronics performance. If this era is the Information Age, maybe the next will be called the Nano Age. Time will tell :)
